Crushing All Over
Johan Ibrahim Adam, sculpture

In St. Nicholas Church, glass, metal and textile converge in a sculpture that balances heaviness with fragility. Johan Ibrahim Adam is interested in how people and systems are affected by historical and contemporary forces. Structures grow, are compressed and displaced. A charge arises in the work between that which supports and that which is at risk of giving way. In the church space, this tension is amplified. Against the massive architecture emerge questions of power, spirituality and collective memory, without being locked into unequivocal interpretations. The observer is instead invited to pursue quiet reflection.
