A dark, rough surface hangs on the wall, like a residue of something that has burned. A narrow crack opens in the middle. If you peek inside, you will be met with an interior space that seems to continue beyond the object’s boundaries. Artist Oscar Furbacken works with scale and illusion. Using mirrors and light, a depth is created that doesn’t correspond with what we see. What first appears to be a solid sculptural piece turns out to contain another world. Inside glow small forms, inspired by organisms that grow after a fire. In the field of tension between destruction and regrowth emerges something that would otherwise have remained hidden.
