How the Mighty are Falling

Eight shark fins shaped from rebar and recycled fishing nets float in the Svartån River. Each fin represents a species and reminds us of the biodiversity of the oceans. They move silently with the current, breaking the surface as if something has just passed by. The material, which once captured marine life, has been given the reverse function. The transparent nets allow light to pass and give the impression of bodies dissolving. The art installation exposes the role of fishing in the global depletion of shark species and directs our attention to what is disappearing slowly, almost imperceptibly.
