I love you in ragu
Doris Apelqvist, installation and multimedia

Photo: Sofie Isaksson
Three large tin cans have been placed on the street. Two are sealed, but one has tipped over and its contents have spilled out onto the ground. Artist Doris Apelqvist uses the tin can as an everyday object and symbol. The work connects to the artist’s own family history and to a canning industry in which the contents didn’t always match the label. Humour and discomfort meet in a play on trust, consumption and stories about what we choose to believe. Apelqvist often works in an intuitive and materials-based process, in which ideas emerge in the doing. In this work, the tin can becomes a memory and an open-ended question about what is actually inside.
