Needle in a Haystack

A robot works methodically in a stack of hay, tasked with finding a needle. Its movements are both impressive and remarkably meaningless. Its seemingly sole mission makes the technology appear both powerful and helpless at the same time. The artist duo Varvara & Mar work in the intersection between art, technology and nature. In their installations, they let machines, data and organic material meet in situations that are just as playful as they are thought-provoking. In this work, the robot’s precise movements are pitted against the loose hay, inviting reflection on our faith in technology and the role it plays in our lives.
