The Continuation – all the Thousands of Promises

MASU, installation

Photo: Sofie Isaksson

Thousands of thin wooden sticks are bound together into a large, billowy structure. They rise from the ground and bend over the site, forming a shape that you can move around in. At Kvarnplatsen, the structure functions as a temporary shelter. The artist duo MASU works with sculptural installations made of wood, often large-scale structures built without drawings. Construction is slow and exploratory, a bit like when birds build nests. The artists behind MASU have been working together since 2012 and both have backgrounds in drawing practices. In their work, the wooden sticks become lines, drawn as if in a sketch, where the shape emerges step by step. The work is part of a longer process in which ideas and materials recur in new contexts.
