The Garden of Fragments

A garden grows from old refrigerators, stoves and washing machines. Used household appliances have been converted into planters, in which vegetation spreads out between metal and cables. The shapes of the installation are suggestive of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, but here the structure consists of everyday abandoned objects. Bahzad Sulaiman is a Kurdish-Syrian artist based in Germany. He often works with objects from home environments and examines how they bear memories of work, consumption and living conditions. By picking apart and putting them together again, their meaning shifts. In The Garden of Fragments, the industrial and the organic meet in a landscape in which remnants of technology become fertile ground for new life.
