The Tree
Tova Lilja & Emil Faisal Hasselberg, sculpture

Foto: Sofie Isaksson
Rising up from waters of the Svartån River is a seven-metre-high metal tree. Branches dance in the air and the leaves interact with the wind to create a glittering soundscape. The sculpture is site-activated, and the sound is brought to life by the movements around it. The work is intended as a gathering place where shapes and sounds together create a space for mindfulness. In the work, great focus has been placed on manual processes and the inherent nature of the material. In collaboration with confirmation candidates from St. Nicholas Church, the artists have explored collective imprints in our public spaces. The bark bears traces of many hands. Individual marks are fused into a shared memory in which every contribution becomes part of the site’s narrative.
