Statement
OpenArt is an art exhibition without an entrance ticket. An open-minded and democratic platform where everyone, regardless of age, socio-economic background, previous interest, or art experience is given the opportunity to meet contemporary art. By twisting the urban rhythm with placing surprising art in the public space, people are encouraged to change their everyday patterns. Even ingrained ways of thinking are challenged when the individual encounters art on their own terms and at their own pace. Hopefully, their world will expand, both physical and mental. Visitors are talking about, are guided in, and strengthened to meet the art with confidence. Both individuals and society grow when the art unites, sometimes upsets, and asks questions through language barriers and across generational boundaries. OpenArt is about the meeting between individuals, the city, and the art.
Curiosity
OpenArt stands for the professional, experimental and prestigeless with the artist in focus. With respect and openness in a free but also encouraging spirit, we work outside the traditional framework with curiosity. OpenArt supports the artist through the different stages of the process, both economically and socially. Partly in planning and execution, partly through technical guidance and in the creative process.
Sustainable production
OpenArt is run by a small team with a big heart who can offer technical advice and some assistance during the production process in OpenArt's workshop. Since most artworks exhibited at OpenArt are of a temporary nature, we strive to use materials in a careful and sustainable way in production. Here, the team has extensive experience and is happy to participate in consultations on the choice of material and production method to find the most cost-effective and climate-smart choice. It is important to have an overall planning of the material used both before, during and after the exhibition. For example, can materials be collected for an artwork and then recycled after the exhibition?
The artists are projects managers
OpenArt requires that the artist has the knowledge to handle their chosen material and production method. Each artist is expected to lead the technical work of installing the artwork in a safe and responsible manner. This also includes staying within the agreed budget and deadlines set in consultation with the team.
Inclusion
OpenArt does not accept any type of discrimination. OpenArt is an LGBTQI-certified workplace that works actively to ensure that everyone feels included and respected. Therefore, we assume that all employees, artists, and collaborators act accordingly. OpenArt stands for gender equality, we see and care for each other and offer a safe place for people which can be considered by society to be norm-breaking.
Open Call
Open Call is the application form where professional artists from all over the world can apply to participate in the exhibition. Approximately one and a half years before the exhibition, our Open Call opens up.
