Karoline Jahn Hjort & Riitta Ikonen, photography

Photo: Sofie Isaksson

In the photographs, we encounter people who almost disappear into the landscape, clothed in moss, bark, leaves and fungi. The portraits convey a tranquil shift, in which the familiar becomes foreign and the border between human and nature dissolves. The artists Karoline Jahn Hjort and Riitta Ikonen have travelled to different places, talked with people, and together created images in which the body becomes part of the surroundings. The series Eyes as Big as Plates moves through diverse landscapes and contexts, but returns to the same question: how we live together with what surrounds us, and how another form of coexistence can take shape.
