Emil Faisal Hasselberg, 1999, Sweden

Tova Lilja works with visual and conceptual art. She follows the traces left behind by people, dreams, memories and the magical. The works become a manifestation or visual summary of what has been shown to her.
Emil Faisal Hasselberg is a Swedish-Afghan artist based in Umeå. In Emil’s artistic practice, craftsmanship is in dialogue with a conceptual way of thinking. He primarily works in metal through sculpture and installations. Creating moving objects, where the collaboration with the space becomes a source of interactivity, is a recurring element in Emil’s work. He strives for an organic approach and uses only repurposed and recycled materials. His work explores themes such as our social relationships to the forest and forestry, as well as questions concerning identity and origin.
Together, through a mutual curiosity for each other’s processes, ideas and visual languages, we want to explore what can emerge in the meeting between our practices.
